Anyone running all season tires here? I know they're no substitute for winter tires, but tires + wheels (steelies) cost a whole lot. I have like 400 dollars max.

Price depends on size. What car and tire size?

My Kuhmo Ecsta 4X have treated me pretty well but if you can afford them Conti Extreme Contacts are awesome.

I don't have any recommendations, but I did get some Bridgestones Turanza EL400-2 when I bought the car, which worked pretty well for me. Pretty good in the dry and wet , not to much noise. But those are nearly 200 bucks a piece for 215/45R17. Thank God I didn't have to buy them, cause Pilot Super Sports are cheaper so I would have went with that. . . but they are summer tires.

*raises hand slowly* I've got all seasons! They are Goodyear Assurances. I had them put on when I bought my Outback because the old tires had to go. I would get summer and winter, but that's not quite in my budget yet for two sets of wheels/tires. They're quiet enough, can handle some spirited driving, and are pretty good in the snow, in my opinion.

EDIT: They are Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread All Seasons to be exact.

The only answer is Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3. I have no idea what the answer is for $400, though.

What size? This is important so that we can recommend something that's actually available in the size you need.

Here are my favorites:
Dunlop SP Sport Signature
Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season
Hankook S1 Noble2

My car has the Dunlop SP Sport Signature

Yep. General Tire's G-max AS-03 are what I run. I got them for ~70$ a tire. very high performance all seasons with a 50k tread life and a surprisingly soft compound. Heavily gooved and siped, it's meant much more for wet stability than dry grip, but it gets the job done.

I like Continentals for budget and performance. They have some mid-range all seasons that are decent. (ProContact, EcoContact). In my experience Continentals tend to perform higher but wear out faster, however also tend to be priced lower to make up for it.

I also had a set of Dunlop Sports that didn't break the bank, but weren't exactly awesome in the snow.

My favorite is the Michelin Pilot MXM4/MXV4 but they might break your budget. Try, could be close.

I've got Michelins and I love 'em

I'm not a fan of AS tires, but if I had to, these are what I'd buy, in order:

Continental DWS

Michelin Pilot Sport AS3

General G-Max AS-03

Once upon a time I had Kumhos that came with my Legacy GT and that was the scariest winter ever, which is why I now use dedicated tires

I'm going to second the Continentals.

My WRX is wearing ExtremeContact DWS and they're grippy in all conditions, gave a very stiff sidewall, and very reasonably priced.

The wifey has ContiTouringContacts on her G35x, and they're very nice, as well, if you want something with a softer sidewall and higher wear rating.

Yeah the ExtremeContacts are supergrippy and a lot of fun! But you might get 30K of 'spirited' street driving instead of 50K on the Michelins. Well, it all depends how 'spirited' your driving is!

Trick question - there is no such thing as an all season tire.

Now, if you ask about a three season tire, you'll probably get more answers. :)

That's definitely true.

I just couldn't justify the cost difference for Michelins when I bought them, even if they'd last longer.

Continental DWS for sure. Next best thing to a winter tire that actually handles really well in warmer months! They are a good value too and you can get them from tire rack. Check em out!

Another vote for Conti DWS - have had them on two cars.

I've got Eagle GT's on my GTI and they have worked well in up to 8" of snow. Not that they wouldn't work in deeper that is just the deepest I've had to contend with.(Lives on a hill)

Because I can't edit last comment: They also kick ass in the dry. Noticeably better lateral grip than the Conti's that came with it.

Put me down for another vote for the Conti ExtremeContact DWS. If a those with a 255 treadwidth can keep my hopped up C63 on the wet, wet roads of the PacNW, then they are golden. Skinny tires, shit tons of power (540hp) and a dipstick behind the wheel instead of under the hood. God Bless DWS.

+1.

How much is your insurance deductible? How much do you value your vehicle? And how much do you value your health and the health of anyone that rides with you? I'm not sure that tires are really worth skimping on.

Continental and General are probably the same tire. Continental owns General. I work for another division and get the discount for both.
